Colourform is a Kontakt 5 sample library of picturesque organic sounds. The library explores the link between sound and colour offering a unique inspirational experience. Each patch features 12 different sounds, that are each assigned a colour. These can then be blended and mixed in real time to produce new colours. Rather than standard knobs and sliders, this concept allows for a more visual link between what you see and what you hear.

The User Interface
Each of the 3 colour wheels have 4 available colours (colours=sounds). These can be in any combination, allowing you to mix between any 2 sounds per wheel – up to 6 layers in total. The output colour is shown on the outer ring of the colour wheels, it is then blended with the other colour wheels. Included are 2 randomisation controls that are tailored to produce musical results. Each patch has velocity enabled and the modwheel can be set up for additional colourful modulation. Finally, there are 4 presets that you can save to, and also a smart voicing switch for the more CPU conscious.
The 112 sounds are wide atmospheric recordings from abstract sources, such as pitchforks, glass bowls, creaky gates, spanners, rain and thunder, fire, water, miscellaneous metal, crt screens, bowed glass and plucked strings. These are presented as pads, soundscapes and tonal percussion.
Creating musical sounds from non musical objects can sometimes be tricky, but with this library I have aimed to show that there can be beauty in the abstract. The recordings are sometimes layered with synthetic sounds that have designed to compliment the feel. The library also features high quality atmospheres, such as 24bit stereo recordings of thunder, rain and fire crackle. These are looped and used in some of the patches to compliment the tonal sounds.
