of the electron are not happenings of their own time, but are events of the past fully as much as are Galileo's experiments on falling bodies and Newton's law of gravitation. For this
reason it is desirable to present to the young-er students the historic outline which to the older generation is part and parcel of its own intellectual life and experience.
