The MODO render cheat sheet
Duration: 1 hour 2 minutes
This tutorial is all about saving you time. When you are fighting a deadline you need to know two simple things: how to eliminate noise, and how to keep your render times down. These two problems are closely related to each other, and easily solvable if you know how.
The MODO Shading Masterclass - Part 1, Introduction
Duration: 1 hour 18 minutes
This is the first ever advanced shading tutorial created for MODO, which will show you how to take your shading skills to the next level by demonstrating the two key approaches for creating photorealistic materials: using measured physical data, and observation of real-world reference.
This first video in the series lays out the theoretical foundation from which you can then create shaders with a solid basis in physical values. The tutorial will explain the two main types of physical material, how they differ in their reflective properties, and what typical values you should use to make believable and predictable shaders.
The MODO Shading Masterclass - Part 2, Metals
Duration: 1 hour 57 minutes
In this second part of the Modo Shading Masterclass series builds upon the concepts introduced in part one and takes an in-depth look at shading metals. This is the most comprehensive tutorial ever made on the shading properties of metals, in any software, and explains every important aspect of metals in detail: showing how to accurately use measured reflectance data, then moving on to describe in detail the most common finishes, and then explaining the effects of oxidation and corrosion, using real-world references to build realistic shaders every time.
The MODO Shading Masterclass - Part 3, Dielectrics
Duration: 1 hour 48 minutes
In this third part of the Modo Shading Masterclass series builds upon the concepts introduced in parts one and two and takes an in-depth look at shading non-metallic surfaces, also known as dielectrics.
Some of the important concepts which are explained in this video are: the different types of diffusion, how diffuse reflection is caused independently of surface roughness, the typical values you should aim for when creating diffuse reflections to avoid creating unrealistically bright materials, the typical fresnel and specular reflection values you should use, how fresnel is affected by surface roughness, and how coatings will affect underlying surfaces based on their index of refraction.
The MODO Shading Masterclass - Part 4, Transparancy & SSS
Duration: 1 hour 27 minutes
In this fourth part of the MODO Shading Masterclass you will take an in-depth look at creating believable transparent and translucent materials, and how to apply realistic settings that conform to the physical properties of real-world materials to create realistic shaders every time.
