Soul Jazz's latest foray into the world of disco, boogie and modern soul has been released to coincide with the publication of Disco Patrick and Patrick Vogt's coffee table tome, An Encyclopedic Guide To the Cover Art of Disco. Much of that book focuses on independent disco releases between 1978 and '82, and that's what Disco Patrick focuses on with this excellent two-disc collection. While there are one or two selections that will be familiar to disco diggers - The Fantastic Aleems' "Hooked On Your Love" and John Gibbs & The US Steel Orchestra's "Trinidad", in particular - there are plenty of lesser-known gems, including rare productions from Patrick Adams and Peter Brown, and the obscure roller-disco brilliance of The Imperials' "Fast Freddie The Roller Disco King". Superb.
