Jeff Beck Group is the fourth studio album by The Jeff Beck Group & the second album with the line up of Jeff Beck, Bobby Tench, Clive Chaman, Max Middleton & Cozy Powell. The album was produced by Steve Cropper & often referred to as the Orange Album, because of the orange which appears prominently at the top of the front cover.
Continuing with the same group lineup as on Rough & Ready, Jeff Beck Group was slagged off by critics for Steve Cropper's admittedly lazy production. However, several of the songs hold up masterfully, including the skronky "Ice Cream Cakes," the superlative redo of Don Nix's "Going Down," & the beautifully sad & wistful instrumental, "Definitely Maybe." Beware of early, poor-sounding versions. Reviewed by Tom Graves allmusic.com
