I really appreciate the design & Layout of the publication:
a little Booklet full of info and 2 unknown archive photos.
Great! And the music is challenging as usual. A fine balance between structure and freedom. In many cases the pieces are full of interesting ideas and everything sounds very modern and contemporary. Overall a sense of freedom, spontaneity & joy.
It's an album full of life and love.

BOB DOWNES OPEN MUSIC TRIO
"
FLASHBACK"
It's 35 years since Bob Downes released any Jazz on his record label Openian.
The Album contains entirely previously unreleased music of Live and Studio recordings from that magical period of the early 70's that Swing, Steam, Stomp and Storm.
Bob Downes plays tenor & alto saxes, simultaneously played saxes and tracks with him playing soprano sax, a 'Horn' never before featured by Downes on any previous Jazz releases. Also to be heard is his very individual approach on flute, alto flute, bamboo flute and vocals.
Barry Guy on bass, plays in a way like you will have surely have never heard him before. There is even a track with him playing electric bass and of course Guy is in his usual 'Top Form'.
Downes' favourite British drummer Denis Smith is exceptionally creative throughout the entire album.
Included in the Booklet is the flute theme with chords of 'Funky Groove', one of the tracks that appear on the album.

Track titles: Brasilian Beauty, Funky Groove (I), Funky Groove (II), Wavelength, Asian Aura, Wailing, Whorefying Experience, Seashore, Maya, Blues Ride, Walkin' Runnin' Man, West Eleven
Duration: 65:20

Your new CD is INCREDIBLE. Thank you for your music and Best Regards.

Rave reviews about FLASHBACK in 'All about Jazz', 'Jazz Wise', and WIRE magazines.
But somebody that heard it said it was 'too Jazzy'. Can't figure that one out?!

"Purchasers of
FLASHBACK, wherever they live in the World, may send paper money in their local currency in a letter, to combat the RIDICULOUS transfer charges that Banks make.

FLASHBACK is terrific. Yumi thinks so too. We've listened to it about 10 times already.
Nice photo of the Band in hyde Park.

I enjoy FLASHBACK enourmously. I enjoy FLASHBACK because it's so bloody good.
If there were any justice it would get selected as "Record of the year" in Jazz Journal.
Alright it did bring back some happy memories as well!
I have also revisited 'HELLS ANGELS' and 'EPISODES' and dug them like crazy - especially EPISODES - there's some amazing stuff and the 'extra tracks' are 'too much'.
Keep it up
Love Desmond
(for foreign readers: 'too much' = Great!)
